Birdie (in evaluation)

This darling mare seems to be a sweet as she is pretty.  We generally do not sell mares here at Tonkawood unless they are exceptional.  We have had some great ones however so when one comes along that meets our criteria we gladly take her.  Birdie is 9 years old and stands 14 3 hands.  Watch for her to finish this week.

Prince (in evaluation)

Ok friends, if you want a big gorgeous quintessential Quarter Horse, take a look at Prince.  He is a nine year old that came in this week.  Watch for him to finish later in the week. Prince stands 15 2 hands and goes at least 1200 lbs.  He is a real looker.

JJ Golddigger

We sometimes get a chance to get these fabulous ranch horses.  JJ Golddigger is an 11 year old registered Palomino that was ranch raised.  He can do it all.  His manner is almost perfect and we do not say that lightly. He will open gates, rope a cow, side pass, and stand quietly until you tell him what you want.  This type of horse is what American Quarter Horses are supposed to be. He stands 15 1 hands. His beauty matches his brains.

Oreo

This great looking ranch Quarter Horse looks to be a great one.  He is 11 years old and come off a working ranch.  We are showing our little Evelyn riding him.  She is 11 years old.    Oreo is 11 years old. He is a true black horse. He is a little sun bleached but is a black black horse. Oreo stands just under 15 hands. Our little Evelyn has been riding Oreo all over the ranch, up the driveway, back into the woods and she loves him.  Evelyn is 11 years old. (sale pending)

Colonel

This gorgeous horse is the quintessential Texas Quarter horse.  Colonel is a registered 16 year old QH that goes to Colonel Freckles.  Look him up for a star stallion that produces wonderful horses.  Colonel is a complete horse for anyone to ride, but we particularly recommend him for children, people just starting to ride, people that have had a bad experience and want a BRAIN on their horse, that has a background of safety and a breeding calm attitude. Colonel has been a working ranch horse with the wow brand.  Colonel is pictured with a rider that came to Tonkawood with a fear issue from previous experience, (not here). She wanted to restore her riding confidence and Colonel has filled the bill. This is one of the great one folks. If you have small children, grandchildren or anyone that you want to ride safely anywhere, he is the one. (sale pending)

Cookie and Cream

CC ( cookies and cream) is a real beauty. He is a 8 year old real dappled gray.  He stands at 14 3 hands and is quiet and gentle.  We finished his evaluation this week. He is willing, safe and is  a great candidate for anyone to do serious trail riding. He is gentle on the ground and loves to be brushed and bathed.  CC has passed all his tests.  He is a gentle beautiful safe horse that would make anyone a grand horse.

Max

Ok folks, here is a beauty.  Max is a gorgeous registered Palomino.  He is 8 years old. He stands 15 hands.  This beautiful horse is as kind and easy as he is beautiful.  We have put him into the camp this week with both the little beginners and the better riders.  (In the camp the riders are categorized into their respective abilities.)  Ms. Pam takes the older riders and her friend and wonderful teacher, Miss Lisa takes the beginners.  Max has been used for both the little ones and the better riders.  He is gentle kind and very very low key in his response to outside "scary" things which makes him a great trail horse, and a kind gentle mount for anyone to ride.  He has a good handle a good stop and is very forgiving for new folks to learn, make some mistakes and be safe in the process.  He loves his bath at the end of camp and is very safe on the ground for all the children and other horses to be around. This is a good horse! (sale pending)

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.
