Amigo Badger

This absolutely gorgeous true Buckskin is a rare find.  As many know good Buckskins are hard to find.  Badger is 14 years old and was a good ranch horse. He stands 16 hands. Badger has passed all his tests with flying colors.  He is a good minded horse with a solid way of going.  He has been worked all his life, so nothing we have asked him to do in the process seems to faze him. He really has never been a ring horse so he figured it out really fast and joined the crew.  He is great on the trail as he has a comfort level out in the fields and ranches. This is a good one folks.

This beautiful horse is a big one guys.  He stands just over 16 hands.  He is extremely gentle and very very quiet and kind.  He has been a ranch horse. He is 10 years old.  Monttana passed all his tests with style and safety. He has an amazing mind and just is a really laid back horse that waits for his rider to tell him what they want, goes about his business quietly with no muss and no fuss.  He will sit under the tree while the kids get their water, go where ever he is asked to go and has not refused any tests we put him through. He is a really good good horse!

Ok guys, here is another great prison horse.  We do not get an opportunity to get many of theses horses but our buyer Les has found one.  Baby is a black mare with all the prison brands.  She is 14 years old and is completely broke to death.  She will go anywhere and do what ever is asked of her.  Prison horses work cattle, guard, and are the backbone of the industry.  She is a gem. Baby stands 14 3 hands and is black.  She has the great Quarter Horse body and the mind of a star. If you want a fun ride on a sharp safe horse, we recommend Baby.

Lady is a 14 year old lovely black mare that is just a star.  Lady was a ranch horse them she was purchased for a high end camp for the summer from us.  She worked all summer with the children and took them all safely for a great safe summer with extensive horsemanship training.  She is game yet safe and fun to ride.  She loves trail work and is great to work with on the ground.  What we love about Lady is she will judge her rider.  If a small beginner or an adult beginner for that matter starts on her she will take care of them and watches her step very carefully.  As the rider gets more accomplished, she steps up a notch and really can move when asked.  These type of horses are rare. This mare is a star.  She has passed all her tests here at Tonkawood and is now ready for her new home. She stands 14 3 hands.

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.
