Sarge

This beautiful typie sorrel horse is a gem.  He stands 14 3 hands and is 9 years old.  He has done ranching his whole life and is now taking very very well to the "good life". He  is kind and fun to ride. We recommend him for an advanced beginner. He has a great handle, a good stop, will stand tied to the trees for grooming and car, is good with the farrier and a nice all around horse for anyone to ride on the trails or at home. This is a good one folks. We are showing him with an 8 year old advanced beginner rider.

Dillon

This cool horse looks just like Matt Dillon's horse in Gunsmoke.  He is a gem and is a great all around horse for kids or adults.  He came from a working ranch. He is 15 hands and is 15 years old. This horse is the epitome of a real Texas ranch horse.  He has great bone, good body, a big butt and wide chest with good straight legs.  His feet are like rocks and needs no shoes. Friends he is bred to work and now seems to think he "died and went to heaven" with all the children and good life. We love these great ranch horses. They are the backbone of the horse industry. (sale pending)

Big Pal ( in evaluation)

This gorgeous horse just came in from a big ranch in South Dakota. He stands 15 hands and is 12 years old. Watch for him to finish his evaluation this week. He looks to be a really good one, gentle and a good ride. (sale pending)

Snowman

Ok here comes another great great children's model.  Snowman belonged to a family that had the children ride him.  The family was moving so our buyer got a chance to purchase him for us.  These are the babysitter great horses for children to start to ride.  He will go when asked but is very very safe and forgiving.  If you are looking for the first starter horse check him out.  More pictures to follow this week. He is fun for an adult to ride also but his claim to fame is small children. These type of horses are very hard to find so when we get a chance we grab them we sure do. Snowman stands 14 3 hands and is 15 years old. (sale pending)

Austin (in evaluation)

Boy is this a beautiful big horse.  Austin came from the same ranch as Sunny.  He stands a good 15 1 hands and is a big pretty horse. He was used for ranching and the owner's daughter showed him in some 4 H shows.  Watch for him to finish this week.  Ran of out light and time!

Sunny

This great horse came from Nebraska off a big ranch that was sold.  He has lived his entire life on this ranch.  When he got to Tonkawood he took stock of things and said, "hey maybe this life is not to bad".  No more hard work, just people to love me and give me treats.  He has taken to his new life like a duck to water.  He is safe as a horse can be, accommodating to his rider and fun to ride. This horse has an amazing attitude and ability to judge his rider.  Miss Evelyn is again riding him everywhere and she says, " I LOVE HIM". We recommend him for any rider that wants safety and experience in a good solid horse.  He is 9 years old and stands 15 hands. He is stout and has a great handle, good stop and just a nice nice all around horse.

Oreo

Wow Oreo has turned out to be a star.  He is a kind gentle horse that has shown us absolutely NO bad habits.  He is willing to go either English or Western.  He is almost a perfect "mover" for an English horse. He has never been ridden English but took to it with ease.  He wants to please.  Oreo is 8 years old and stands 14 2 hands. This horse is a gem. We LOVE him! He has gone off the site to a practice run and was perfect in his approach to a new place.(sale pending)

Perry

Ok folks, here is another show stopper.  We have a connection with a fancy show stable in the Dallas area that donates some horses to Common Ground. These  horses have been major show horses on the A Hunter circuit.  Perry is one of these.  He was a champion Hunter in that tough division for years. he WAS ELECTED HUNTER HORSE OF THE YEAR NATIONALLY! FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW. He is a Hanoverian Warm blood that was imported from Germany. He stands 16 3 hands.  His owners have now donated him to Common Ground to retire from the circuit.  He is extremely gentle with amazing manners and training.  He is ready for a new life of trail riding, light jumping and great ring riding.  He is sound and in great shape. He is not to be shown again on the A circuit as part of his donation.  These great owners love this horse and want the perfect home for him. We recommend him for any rider as his kind disposition and way of going are safe and calm. (sale pending)

Sale pending means that the horse has been sold and is out for the 7 day period.  Please see our guarantee.

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.

Prices of our horses.
