Cheyenne is a 12 year old horse that was a pickup horse in the Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming. Cheyenne stands at 15 1 hands. A pickup horse is one that picks up the cowboys from the bucking horses and the bucking bulls.  Wow he has seen a lot! He is smart, sharp and absolutely broke to death. He can turn on a dime, stop, open gates, side pass and is fun to ride. This is one of the smartest horses to come to Tonkawood. His first day he was like "where is the cowboy" and what is going on?  The second day he said, "wow this is easy, I love it" and has been a STAR. This horse is a gem. He adapted to a new life quickly and loves going on the trail. He took to his ring work and all the tests without a bobble. THIS IS A NICE ONE!! He has the Cheyenne Frontier Days brand on his shoulder.  Too Cool!!! If you want a smart safe horse that is a wonderful ride, look at him. Yesterday we put an eight year old rider on Cheyenne and he immediately geared down and made a judgment on his rider.  These types of smart horses are hard to find.  This is a good one folks!

Fling (in evaluation)

This beautiful Buckskin horse seems to be a real gem.  Fling is 13 year old and stands 14 3 hands.  He looks to be a great children' horse. He is kind and extremely well broke.  Our buyer purchased him from a family where the wife did sorting on him and the children rode him.  We will finish him this week but so far he has really been great for the kid riders. (sale pending)

This beautiful horse came from the same ranch as Digital.  this horse has been a working ranch horse his whole life.  His attitude is wonderful and our Amber has been riding him and loves him.  Rodeo is a gem.  He is one of the smartest horses we have had here at Tonkawood.  He is watching all the time for his job.  He is a kind horse that will also judge his rider.  He has been a worker all his life but is taking to the good life very well.  When he first came he was a little anxious as he was not sure what his job was but boy does he know now.  He is a kind gentle horse that just wants to please. He stands at 15 1 hands and is 11 years old. (sale pending)

Once in awhile we get a spectacular mare in.  Moca fits that description.  She is an 11 year old beautiful mare that stands 14 3 hands.  He color is actually the color of coffee. She has a flowing mane and tail and is a doll to work around.  She does not act like a typical mare and wants to please her rider in any way she can.  If you want a beautiful horse that is suited for most any rider, look at her.

Barney (in evaluation)

Ok folks here is the kid's model supreme.  Our buyer purchased Barney from a family that has him for there daughter to start riding on and do some play days.  As life turned she got interested in other things and the horse fell by the wayside.  He is a wonderful beautiful horse that has the kid safe mind yet is really fun to ride.  Barney is 14 years old and stands just under 15 hands.  We will finish him this week but so far this guy fits Tonkawood profile just to a tee. (sale pending)

Bluebonnet  (Common Ground)

Oh my gosh, will you look what came out of a horrible situation.  A lady called us about this little mare. She said that she was in a horrible place and not being cared for. So Bluebonnet came to Tonkawood as a rescue horse. When she got off the trailer she had wire and metal in her mane and in her tail.  She was so cute but obviously had no one caring for her. She was so glad to get to Tonkawood.  The day she arrived the kids fell in love. They set about taking all the metal out of her tail and washing and grooming her.  She never moved a muscle. Then we put her out with another mare and she went right into the program here.  Two days later the kids got on her and she is broke to death.  We think she belonged to someone that did roping on her as she is trained extremely well.  We do not know how she ended up in the circumstance she did but all is well as Bluebonnet is a star! We are showing her with a first time 6 year old rider.  She stands 13 3 hands and is 13 years old. She has been to the dentist, the dentist/vet checked her out and she has had her feet done. She has been wormed and is thriving here.  She has turned out to be a Tonkawood favorite.  She is for sale to a PERFECT home.  She will come under the Common Ground 401c3 program identified in the Common Ground tab!

What do we mean by sale pending?

Sale pending means that the horse has been sold and is out for the 7 day period.  Please see our guarantee.

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.
