This beautiful horse is as nice to ride as he pretty.  Coolie is an 11 year old former ranch horse. We owned Coolie and sold him to a family that unfortunately had to give up the horses. They want him to have a great home and we of course wanted him back.  Folks this is a nice nice horse.  He will take a child anywhere safety yet a good rider would love him as he is safe, fun to ride, responsive and has a great mind.  He loads like a dream, is great with the vet and farrier and has wonderful safe ground manners for anyone to work on.  Nice horse!! Coolie stands at 15 hands.

Ok Our buyer has done it again. Cheyenne is an 8 year old ranch gelding that come down from the mountains of Montana. See his winter coat already. This horse was used on a big ranch up there.  Our buyer brought him down and loaned him to a friend that has a fancy ranch that has folks come to ride for two weeks until she could get up to Tonkawood. He was a star and took any rider safely.  When he gets a "dude" or a child he seems to know it and gears down.  What a good rider gets on he will do his ranch thing, but with an amazing quiet mind.  It got dark today so we will get more pictures of him tomorrow.  He stands 15 hands.

This nice horse was sold before he got on the web but wanted you all to see him.  His name is Levi and he is a former heading horse. Some nice folks came to visit and Levi got off the trailer from our buyer and wa la a match.  (sale pending)

The Prof

Many call us for the horse for a starter for little ones.  The Prof is one of the rare ones.  Prof is aged,( in the 18 to 19 year range). We have had him completely gone over by our vet and he has the "heart of a 2 year old" according to our vet.  We have had his teeth done, all completely checked out and he is a good one folks. We believe from his behavior and his ease of riding at the walk, slow jog and lope that he has had western pleasure training.  He was discovered in a "kill pen" at a horse auction. We were called as many folks know that we save horses for our Common Ground Foundation. We told the person to purchase him for us.

Miss Pam has had all the kids riding him.  Prof will be specially priced to a good home with a guarantee buyback  from us.  If you purchase him to start your kids, we will trade you out with a upgrade horse when the time comes and you will receive a credit for his purchase on your new model.  I will take more pictures of him this week.  He is  SWEETIE and deserves the best.  Sometime you wonder how these wonderful horses end up in harms way! (sale pending...hooray)

This darling horse is the ultimate family children's horse.  He stands 14 3 and is a chunky model.  He has been ridden by children for the last two years in our buyer's neighborhood.  He has gone to the store, played "cowboys and Indians", and has had as many as three children riding him bareback at one time.  Our buyer Les was able to buy him from her neighbors as the children are now getting "into other things".  He was originally a good ranch horse.  Cosmo is 11 years old. You will see our 8 year old Miss Evie, riding him. We recommend him for anyone to ride and have fun with. He has a good handle, a good stop and most of all a very very forgiving mind and good manners. Nothing we have found seems to bother Cosmos.

Ok folks, here is another show stopper.  We have a connection with a fancy show stable in the Dallas area that donates some horses to Common Ground. These  horses have been major show horses on the A Hunter circuit.  Perry is one of these.  He was a champion Hunter in that tough division for years. he WAS ELECTED HUNTER HORSE OF THE YEAR NATIONALLY! FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW. He is a Hanoverian Warm blood that was imported from Germany. He stands 16 3 hands.  His owners have now donated him to Common Ground to retire from the circuit.  He is extremely gentle with amazing manners and training.  He is ready for a new life of trail riding, light jumping and great ring riding.  He is sound and in great shape. He is not to be shown again on the A circuit as part of his donation.  These great owners love this horse and want the perfect home for him. We recommend him for any rider as his kind disposition and way of going are safe and calm.

Gota Zip

Zip is the ultimate children's horse.  He is a registered Paint that showed and won three world championships.  He is 16 years old and ready for a child to learn to ride, and if you want learn to show western pleasure and showmanship.  He also won hunter under saddle.  These great horses are perfect for a young rider to learn and compete as safety and years of training prevail. He also is a wonderful trail horse that would make any family proud to own. (sale pending)

This cool horse came in from Montana two weeks ago after working a big ranch. Our buyer has connections in the area and she was able to purchase Billings for us.  Billings is 8 years old and stands 16 hands.  He is amazing for his mind and his training.  These good ranch horses are what we love to represent here at Tonkawood as they have "been there done it" and represented years of training and therefore safety for our riders. He can rope, spin when asked, side pass, open gates and check fences.  If you want to safely trail ride, Billings thinks "wow this is easy, I can do this like a breeze". We recommend him for any rider with some experience as he is fun, sharp and needs a rider that can take advantage of his knowledge for fun and safety. (sale pending)

This amazing horse is a former Tonkawood horse.  He was used in the mountains of Ruidoso New Mexico by his owners for trail riding.  He is just amazing in his attitude and his ability being a former ranch horse. Due to family circumstances the owners called us to sell him to a good home. This horse is amazing in his mind set, his attitude and his ability.  If you want a proven trail horse that has a great handle, a good stop and most importantly safety, we highly recommend Lucky. He is 11 years old and stands just under 16 hands. He will take a beginner rider or a seasoned pro for a great ride. (sale pending)

Sometime we get a really special character here at Tonkawood.  Louise has immediately become the student's favorite.  She is a 16 year old mare that came from the Louisiana prison system. These rare prison horses are so completely trained and safe that they are hard to purchase.  Our buyer was first in line to get Louise. She stands 16 hands. She is in wonderful shape and has many years left for a children's starter horse, or anyone that wants a safe horse to ride on trails and a family model.  She is a real character and everyone has fallen in love with Louise! We are showing her with our 9 year old Evelyn riding her. (sale pending)

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.
