Funny is amazing.  Funny is a 13 year old Quarter Horse that came off a Wyoming ranch.  He was used to herd sheep and hook them.  I never heard of this but they ride horses out in the high country to herd and gather sheep.  The good horses are used to hook the sheep, with a long pole that hooks them around the neck for doctoring and to catch them.  Amazing to see.  This horse is absolutely stoic.  Nothing we have found bothers him.  He is willing to go anywhere and do anything you ask of him.  WE LOVE HIM!!! Funny stands 15 3 hands. He is a big solid horse. If you want total safety, an amazing quiet mind, and a fun ride, look at him. We recommend him for almost any rider.

Now my friends, if you want a western movie horse with Matt Dillon riding, here he is.  Rockefeller is a 14 year old working ranch horse that just came off the working ranch.  He is absolutely wonderful and the kids all named him Rockefeller as he is so "rich"...this horse is every families dream for a family child model.  He knows it all.

This beautiful quiet gelding is a gem.  He is kind, willing and fun to ride.  Pecos has the attitude that all Tonkawood horses must have. He is safe, and great to work on the ground or to ride. We recommend him for any rider.  He is 10 years old and stands just under 15 hands. He has performed all the tests we ask quietly and with ease.  He loves trail work and nothing seems to spook him.

Ok folks, once in awhile we get a special interest horse.  Shiner is a Common Ground horse.  He is registered and is 8 years old.  He came to Tonkawood as his owner was no longer able to care for her horses and donated him to us. As we have worked and enjoyed Shiner's wonderful personality, we started research on his papers and background.  We were astounded to find that he is a grandson of the Hall Of Fame reiner, Shining Spark. Look him up on the internet..........wow what a horse!!.  His father is All American Shiner and famous himself. It is a long story how the lady that got him came to have such a well bred horse. Everything Shiner does is amazing and you can tell that he was started reining. He has a great handle an amazing stop and the best manners you can ask for in a horse. He stands 15 2 hands and is a completely gentle kind horse. (sale pending)

Stony (in evaluation)

This beautiful old fashioned ranch horse is what a good Texas ranch horse should look like.  Stony stands 15 3 hands and is probably one of the best broke horses to come to our ranch.  He is a true red roan. Stony has been used on a working ranch to brand calves, rope, work chutes, and all around ranching work.  His turn is amazing, his stop is almost perfect and so far we have not found a flaw in him.  He will continue his evaluation this week. Stony is registered Quarter Horse and is 10 years old. The rancher that owned him has his children ride him along with working him on his ranch. (sale pending)

Little Bit

This absolutely wonderful new horse is a gem.  He is a former feed lot working horse. His handle is amazing, his stop is almost immediate, he opens gates, goes over anything we ask and is being featured in our pictures with 9 year old Evie riding. Miss Evie took him over as she "LOVES" him.  She had him doing all the evaluation protocol, and went on a trail ride all alone with no other companion horses.  This horse is a great candidate for anyone that wants a pleasure ride with safety and with a fun responsive horse. He is 11 years old and a beautiful seal brown that looks black in the winter. He stands just under 15 hands.

We are so proud of our new owners and the good horses they have.  These safe guys are the backbone of the industry, hard to find and deserve a good home with loving families.  We are happy to say that all our "guys" are well placed and that makes our job fun and much easier.  Thank you all.

We are especially proud of our horses that are going out of state as the trust and our references are giving our horses a great opportunity to serve in other states as well as here in Texas.

 Our Designer horses!

We would like to ask our prospective buyers to give us a good description and outline of the horses you are looking for.   We would like to encourage you to email us, or call us telling us exactly what you are looking for in a horse. There are eight criteria we look at when we determine if we can "match" you to a horse. 1. Safety.  2. The need. What do you want to do with the horse? Trail ride, ranch ride, versatility play days etc.  3. What is your skill level? 4. Where are you keeping the horse? This allows us to determine the suitability of our horses to YOUR environment. 5. Are you going to haul your horses to ride? Obviously easy loading is a MUST. 6. What are the pasture mates? 7. Who is going to ride the horse? Children, family or single rider need is a question we ask. WHEN WE DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF PARTNER YOU NEED, THEN WE CAN SUITABILITY FIND YOU A MATCH. 8. What price range are you looking in ?

We ask you to come to Tonkawood for an evaluation ride so we can see what kind of partner you want and need that way with high gas prices you do not waste a trip for a horse and we can make a good match for you. Please note that we are not seeking to critize your riding as we get all kinds of riders, but the overriding goal is to have you enjoy the horse, the sport and the love based on your needs and skills. If you come to Tonkawood and do an evaluation ride, we will then seek a partner for you, determine the suitability for you and then send you pictures.  If you live to far, then please give us as much information as you can so we can make sure we show you a candidate that suites your needs and suites the horse. If you like the horse, after an evaluation ride, we send pictures, and if the look suites you, we will then HOLD the horse for you until you can come to see it. We also ask that you check out our sold column and give us an idea of the type of "look" you like.  That cuts down time, effort and money by pre qualifying a horse for you.

Our horses must meet the standard of safety we require for all of them. No horse can be perfect at all times, and circumstances can occur that render the horse unsuitable or the rider not in tune. Some horses are better suited to individual needs than others, that is why we are asking you to give us a list so we can determine if and how a horse will suite your needs.
